Teams and Tasks

In an attempt to help folks understand how they can assist with the Co-op effort, here's a breakdown of the teams and tasks as we see them right now. This list is fairly comprehensive but includes just the major tasks. Your help could be with a whole task or just part of one. We're focusing on these right now, but please contact us if you can think of some other way to help.

MEMBERSHIP TEAM - Leader: Mia
- Drive the effort to build membership in a coordinated manner with Education, Marketing and Party sub-Teams
- Build tabling crew and working procedures
- Choose/design membership card
- Choose “full membership” gift
- Plan and organize monthly social events with special attractions
- Develop “Bring a Friend” incentives
- Contribute newsletter, forum and blog content
- Develop gift/holiday membership procedures and materials
- Look into developing a “member to member” discount plan
- Choose promotional and sale items; develop procedures for item sales

Education sub-Team
- Plan and organize education events
- Secure presenters and further develop presentation procedures

Marketing sub-Team
- Further develop branding for First 500 Friends push, “Are You an Owner Yet?” campaign
- Build flyer distribution crew and procedures to get 6,000 out per month
- Further develop e-social networking, event announcements to all major related sites
- Network with other groups to develop co-promotion events
- Continue to generate press releases and developing positive relations with the press
- Start regular newsletter

Party sub-Team
- Work with other teams to arrange for food/drink/decorations for events
- Build and coordinate a crew of volunteers
- Develop relations with vendors that will carry forward into store operations
- Work with Product Selection Team to provide feedback on developing guidelines

FINANCE/ADMINISTRATION TEAM - Leader: Patrick
- Develop member loan plan, present to Board
- Research grant options, complete/submit applications
- Research outside loan options, present options to Board
- Develop other fundraising options, present to Board
- Further develop business plan financial projections in - preparations for loan applications
- Research market survey professionals, make recommendations to Board
- Conduct General Manager search
- Review Los Angeles County health code regarding neighborhood produce
- Research business insurance regarding neighborhood produce

BRICKS & MORTAR TEAM - Leader: Tricia
- Develop list of needed construction professionals, work with Finance Team to improve financial projections
- Develop location rating system, present to Board, begin searching for candidates
- Research store design features, begin looking for a Designer to improve on our ideas
- Work with Education group to hold occasional sustainable building events

IT TEAM - Leader: Joe
- Maintain and upgrade AFC Website
- Assist Communications group in disseminating information
- Make sure the date at the bottom of this page is fairly close to today

PRODUCT SOURCING TEAM - Leader: Lois
- Investigate buying strategies of other co-ops and food groups
- Begin developing policies and procedures for food choices that will carry forward into store operations

POLICY TEAM - Leader: (position now open)
- Review bylaws, recommend changes to the board if necessary
- Develop team to public communications procedures
- Begin developing Board policies

VOLUNTEER/OUTREACH TEAM - Leader: (position now open)
- Coordinate incoming volunteers
- Support and encourage volunteer and presenter training
- Advise on work force development
- Help develop tabling talking points
- Help develop volunteer guidelines and procedures
- Organize periodic volunteer orientation events
